Science, Art and Philosophy

Chiropractic...a primary care alternative medicine science.

The Science: Chiropractic is that branch of the medical health sciences which bases its treatment on the scientific fact that the nervous system, your brain and spinal cord, controls the function of every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. Your body is much like the Internet; Your brain is your computer, your spinal cord is the information highway, your spinal vertebrae which house nerves, arteries and veins are the links to structures such as the arms, legs, back, head and neck as well as organs, such as the heart, lungs, intestines, and reproductive organs. A disruption of the function of these tissues or organs and related nerve control is called VSC, Vertebral Subluxation Complex, or VSD, Vertebral Segmental Dysfunction.  Chiropractic is the science of finding these areas of spinal malfunction, the art of correcting them and the philosophy of encouraging the body to heal with natural processes.  Utilizing, whenever possible, natural therapeutic methods, inclusive of exercise, rehabillitation and diet.

The Art: Chiropractic physicians are unique specialists in the "art" of chiropractic "adusting," or manipulation, of specific vertebra, as well as other methods of detection and correction, of spinal related dysfunction.  Methods typically include a comprehensive evaluation, a review of health history, and arrival at a clear diagnosis, as well as a recommended specific treatment plan, customized for each patient. The spinal adjustment, or manipulation, is one of the many methods of directed and controlled pressure, applied to the spinal structures, to restore spinal segments to a more normal position and range of motion, aiding in improved flexibility, joint function, reduction in pain and enhanced healing process. Chiropracic is truly an art.

The Philosophy: Chiropractic philosophy recognizes that the body, as a living organism, contains inherent healing and recouperative powers that can heal the body - as long as there is no interference. The chiropractic physician knows that he/she does not heal you.  The chiropractic physician acts as a co-facilitator, working with you, assisting  your body in regaining a state of healing, or health, by the most natural means possible. The main purpose of the chiropractic physician is to assist in restoring normal function and biomechanical balance. The body, as we all know, and if given a chance, and more often than not, heals itself!
